hi guys, I'm looking to get the diesel pump (the one on the block, not the one in the tank) reconditioned.

Anyone got any advice on where to get the job done? Will I end up having to pay a fortune to get the reconditioned pump calibrated for the engine?

any and all advice appreciated!

Cheers, I'm based in the republic so whats the craic with getting the pump taken off / put back in? I don't want to get stuck with a bill for a grand after having shelled out for the reconditioned part

I am no expert, but I have heard of people getting big bills for refurbing their FIP....in the £600+ region....

Refitting is not simple and will need to be carefully timed using special tools, as the setting is in the thousandsth of an inch to get the pump timing in synch.....so best left to a Bosch specialist or a damn good Diesel fitter...imho.

not a difficult job to remove the pump . whats wrong with your own pump , a pump off a bmw 525 or 325 bmw or opel omega diesel will fit your vehicle

But you will have to change the electronic bits or top cover or something like that (just from what I have heard from others - just can't remember specifics) from the RR FIP if you get one from another manufacturer....

if using a 2nd hand pump you need one with the number ending 994 ( written on the pump ) all omegas use the 994 pump bmw use allsorts and be carefull buying bmw car injection pumps as there are two different size mounting holes a small and a large hole range rovers are large hole.

nathan is correct about the hole size but if you can get a pump with the correct size hole the biggest problem you will have is changing the top of the pump . i have a secondhand pump in good working order with the correct electronic top (pump suitable for rangerover)

as i said above if the bosch part number stamped on the pump body is stamped with a number ending in 994 it is correct and the electronics are the same all range rovers and all omegas use the pump with the number ending in 994.
the electronics can be swapped but should never be done unless done by a pump specialist they use machines costing thousands of pounds and are set to a thousands of a mm do it yourself and it will never be right.
to far and it could run away a throw a rod to far the other way and it will be flat as hell people have done it and got ok results but would you be happy with nearly right i wouldnt!!

Nathan i have fitted 2 pumps where i have had to change the heads and had great results my own p38 being one example i have a fantastic hot and cold start i have fantastic power(for a p38) very good tickover and my emissions are very low. i dont think it could be better than that. i agree with you about the fact that it could rev itself to distruction or be very flat so mabye i was just lucky.

just reading back on what i wrote it looks like i was pi--ing on nathans batteries so nathan i am sorry i didnt mean to sound so loud  sorry and thank you for your help :)

no worries! i think if i were to change the top i would prob spray paint the top before removing so when i swapped it i would have a good chance of getting it exactly where the old one is.
all i meant it is a bit of a risky buisness recommending someone do it if they are a bit inexperienced on the spanners as the results could be really bad!
just a note to add if you replace your engine with a bmw car engine and find you have a small recess pump engine, the original large hole pump can be machined down to fit as i found out when i made this error with my last rangie had it done at a local engineering firm for £30 cash!

i did just you said i marked the top of the pump and the pump itself . i have a friend who said he could machine down the pump snout to have it fit . i would imagine that a bushing or adaptor of some type could be made to fit the engine with the large hole to accept the pump with the small snout
