Ok so there is play in the turbo shaft from side to side, it spins ok, also in the boost hoses you can start to see the weave of the hose underneath the smooth outer surface. There was also what could be metal filings in places, on the inside of the output on the turbo (the bit that goes to the intercooler) it looked like something had scraped through the oil.

So assuming the turbo needs replacing, how hard is it to do, is reconditioned the best way and is it easier to replace turbo with manifold as one? Thanks again.

Forgot to mention there has been a lot more oil come out of the filler cap in the last few days.

If the turbo shaft is bad any pressure it is making maybe being force into the sump via the oil return. That could account for your crankcase pressure. Not certain but possible. Fitting a new turbo is pretty straight forwards. One of the turbo to manifold bolts maybe difficult to get out, the one at the back with exposed threads, have some plus gas handy make sure you use a good socket on squarely and move back and forth after you get it moving as required with plus gas applied to free it. The turbo may come out attached to the manifold don't know never done it that way.

Ok so changed the turbo, was an ok job, removing the section of exhaust would have been easier with help but luckily the turbo bolts came out no problem. I am however still getting the oil from the filler cap, cheers.

Still have the oil leak from the filler cap, i was thinking it could be the cap after all this but the intercooler hose has moved back away from the intercooler again. Any ideas? Cheers.

Ok so to conclude this saga, replaced the intercooler hose with a new one and it hasn't moved since. Turned the seal in the cap over and that also seems to be sorted, many thanks :)

Lol, yeah i didnt think the seal would be u/s so soon but it had become indented from where it seals on the cam cover, turning it seems to have done the job.

So if you had listened at post 26 post 47 would not have been needed. :D:D:D

Hi all, I currently have an issue where I am leaking oil from the top of the dipstick, there is some smoke from the filler cap when opened running and you can feel the breathing from the cam cover to inlet hose, are there any other breathers on the engine, I didn't know if those black pipes that stick up behind the cam cover could be? Many thanks, Gaz.

I've had exact same problem with 2002 3.0 diesel vogue. My mate went to move it to get at his car, when all of a sudden there was a huge plume of white smoke billowing from the exhaust system but also entering the car through the air vents. When he opened the bonnet there was oil all over the engine and it was squirting out from the dipstick tube. It's a bit of bad timing as I just put it on eBay and it was running fine yesterday

You really should start new Fred’s as you are resurrecting old 1s, with no fix. For something that seems to have been fixed
No I haven’t even bothered to go back to the start, but have you fixed yours as per post 26;)?

Sound like too much oil in the crankcase:eek::eek:
