Bad day yesterday. Aimed to take the Landy (SIII Diesel) out for a drive up some local hills, turned the keyswitch (I don't like calling it an ignition switch on a diesel - it isn't) to pre-heat position. Result - lots of smoke coming out from behind instruments!
Plans abandoned so stripped down dash to reveal burnt out keyswitch (charcoal between contacts, glows and smokes when connected) so new switch module required plus some re-wiring to remove damaged connectors.
Anyway, to get to the point, the switch module is secured to the steering lock assembly by two very small phillips head screws. Except mine isn't, one of the screw heads is missing so I'l have to get it drilled out at work.
Does anyone have a part number or description of these screws so I can order a new one with my switch module?

It the same switch as the classic Mini, if that helps with getting parts. But I cannot remember if they're machine screws or not.

It sounds like the screws are the security type where the heads are supposed to snap off when they are tightened to prevent thieves undoing the steering lock. When you buy a new key switch barel, you will get new screws with it.

Sorry, I re-read your post where it says "very small" screws. So I'm basically talking bollox.

From what I remember when I rebuilt my series, they were self-tappers as the lock body is made from a soft zinc type metal.

Yes. they do look like self tappers, well, the one I've managed to get out.
Tried drilling the other one out this morning but far too hard for hand drill. Try the pedestal drill tomorrow.
From memory, if I bugger up the existing hole drilling the screw out, will I be able to drill another hole elsewhere?

Those series three diesel switches are like hens teeth. Does yours have the steering lock?

Yes it does, and the working pull engine stop unlike my last truck which had a choke cable instead of the seized engine stop.
Ordered a new switch mechanism tonight from LR Direct so should be back on the road by weekend.
