just out of interest which has cleaner emisions? diesel or veg oil? only scrapped through mot last year cos of emissions n was wondering if veggie wud help or make worse
Veg oil is far cleaner and should make a big difference.
Veg oil is far cleaner and should make a big difference.
Veg oil is CARBON NEUTRAL. It adds ZERO CO2 to the atmosphere.

I've been looking into growing me own. I've got land I could do it on, just need to figure out the logistics of planting, harvesting and extracting the oil. At first glance it probably isn't viable financially to grow say 3 or 4 acres of rape and come up with some way of extracting the oil efficiently, but I'm open to any ideas if anybody's got any.
Has anyone here tried using veg oil in a TD6 L322?
Yes that's about what my research came up with. It might be more cost effective to grow a more profitable crop and just use the proceeds to buy diesel. Dunno what though. If you planted a good high-yielding variety, and kept the bugs, birds and moulds off, you should be able to get abut 100 gallons of oil per acre,
That's about 400 to 450 litres of oil.
One has to wonder if that is worth the effort.

So can you run the standard 300tdi engine off a mix or does it need some modification?
No mods required especially in warm places like Greece should be.
In fact, you will probably notice the engine runs sweeter and smoother.
I found out the local garage which I've been using (in the sticks in Greece) shove all their old engine oil and all sorts into the diesel pumps for us unsuspecting customers. Could this be a reason mine's been running **** recently?
Probably NOT. WATER in fuel is bad, but ought not to get through the system to the injectors. I suggest IMMEDIATELY you sort out the sedimenter if it has one (at the back of the car underneath) and fit a NEW FUEL FILTER. Make sure the LIFT PUMP is working well and isn't drawing air anywhere. If the fuel filter assembly has a return pipe on the very top of the filterhead, it is probably a SELF-BLEEDER and more than likely it is blocked. Strip it then find and clean a TINY wee cross-drilled hole in the banjo bolt.
If that doesn't make it run properly there's a problem, but not in the fuel.
What sort of mpg do u get compared to straight diesel anyone know?
300tdi running on svo, slow to start, but it was payday and either whisky or diesel, and I prefer white spirit to diesel so no contest.
