Evening all,
The Rangie has been running so well I have not been on here for a bit :)

Mine is a 2000 diesel and the FIP has been playing up for a fair while so I bought a recon unit and swapped them over on the weekend.

as far as I can tell the swap went well I set the new pump following the rave instructions and it ran sweet.

I have used the car since then on short trips but today I ventured further afield, after about 10 mins of driving about 70mph the engine just cut out dead. luckily I coasted into a pull in where it promptly died. basically I sat there for an hour prodded about, spun it over and cursed a lot! suddenly it sprang back to life and ran fine???

Drove home with no further mishap so looked about found nothing wrong so left it for a while before venturing out again.

this time I drove for about 20 mins and just as I had convinced myself all was fine it died again?

this time it would not restart and I am mystified, the only thing I can see out of the ordinary is the engine management light comes on with the ignition as normal but when it goes out it is now coming back on a second later?

anyone got any ideas on this?

Cheers

Steve.

Diagnostics are your friend you can guess for a very long time and not come up with the answer.

LZIR map might help.

Is there a kink in the fuel line anywhere or a restriction? Sounds like not enough fuel is getting through when you have your foot planted.

No kink or restriction that I can see. managed to get it on some diagnostic machine today and it gave us an error code "engine stop 148" I think this refers to a fuel delivery problem or the immobilizer and becm have gone out of sync?

Also after getting this code I cracked off injector one and tried to start the engine and not a drop of diesel came out of the pipe? anyone have any thoughts on this?

Open all the injectors and as fuel comes out close them. If you are not getting any fuel at all doing this it is more than likely out of sync. Or BECM has had a fit and changed settings from late EDC to early EDC or something like that. If the BECM has lost sync with the ECU then you will not get any fuel from injectors and it will need re syncing. You need someone with a Nanocom to look at it. Most other diagnostic kits are a waste of time. What diag was used on it?

Thanks for the input Wammers, it was a snap on tools unit of some sort, looked a good bit of kit but I guess it is limited what it can do in depth.

Check fuel cut solenoid and it's wiring - it gets brittle over time..

Give that man a gold star!!!!!! Thank you for this bit of advice, went and had a look and the wire looked fine but has become stiff, turned the ignition on and the management light remained lit, moved the solenoid wire about a bit and the management light went out, cranked it over and it fired straight up PHEW!!!!!!

nurse it home later and swap the wire over with a new piece tomorrow.

Thanks again to all for your input.

Cheers

Steve.
