Hi,

I have sold my soul and ordered a Disco 3 and looking forward to it with antipation (and some trepidation).

I was interested in how the diesel burning auxliary heater works. I had a Kenlowe Hotstart on my previous car - it allowed me to warm up the block and coolant system before starting, which made it more comfortable on cold days and I am sure helped with engine wear.

Does the Disco 3 heater allow you to preset times? There is a reader review on the What Car site that suggests that initally this was only possible with the radio on but that LR were ging to drop the feature rather than sort it.

Does anyone know better?

From what I can gather the UK diesel models have been fitted with a Webasto Fuel Burning Pre-Heater. They have these kind of heaters fitted in sleeper cabs on trucks and work by allowing the driver to preset a "start up time" by setting a timer/clock.
ie: Driver comes in at 5am to start work, heater clock set for 4-45am, truck cab all nicely warmed up and windows frost-free. (they are a brilliant tool and don't use hardly any fuel at all)

Just read that review on "What Car" and can't believe that Land Rover can't sort this niggle out.

Have you tried popping back down to the dealer and asking the question? I looked on the web but can't find anymore info on this problem.

I hope you enjoy the new Disco, sounds a good car, has done well in the G4 challenge but I still don't get that back end? Its a transit!

I will speak to the dealer at the chance I have - it sounds great if it works...

As for the back end your right but I have grown quite attached to it.
 
I've got this in my new Disco 3. It's NOT programmable dammit! I was told it would be when i ordered it but of course "landrover retain the right to change specifications". But the first cold morning - it worked fine (it's triggered by low temperature outside and starts automatically when you fire up the engine).
Don't knock the transit rear - it's a heck of a sight easier to wash and if you take it to a car wash - it will really get washed (unlike my last TD which was never cleaned with the spare stuck on the back.
