Are they worth much? (Were already on it when I bought it)

Well... new they are a hefty price

The sliders are £300 plus from the main dealers.

The chrome A-bar was near that figure (last I checked, as I was after a black powder coated one a few years back), plus very hard to purchase them new, as they are all the plastic type now to meet with EU safety laws.

IIRC its still perfectly legal to have them, they're just not manufactured anymore??

You might get out cheaper than you think with the transmission, it's only simple tools to fit the diff and IRD, give it a go (OH)

Personally speaking...........despite the many faults and issues with the FL1, it has many redeeming features, consider your options wisely as you might just regret breaking a tidy motor :)

Besides the dogs will like it :D

Thanks Northern Irelander!

The side bars serve no other purpose than to pull my muddy boots off! So selling the 'chrome' will certainly help towards costs if all under 1k (fingers crossed). If we can fix it under 1k, then we will do, as I haven't had any other major problems with it at all.

Does just what I need it to, and has got me out of some tricky places where some of the other 4x4's couldn't.

So fingers crossed it will be ok! Otherwise it will have to go sadly, as can't really justify anything more to fix it.

I see a bargain ,you wont get much selling it in the state its in.Invest in a haynes manual, make sure he reads and re-reads the ird and diff replacement sections. Its easily done, sort of,but very doable .
Theres plenty of advice already in this freelander section,if you search and trawl through many a burn it post.
Ask and you will be advised by someone who might have just done it last week.

Well we need someone to tell us 'exactly' what is wrong with it, and we can then source any parts ourselves, and if 'doable' then we will have a go! :) just want my car back!

Well first thing that needs doing is drain the ird into a clear container.
edit: iirc it takes 1-1 litres so warm it up and see how much comes out.

Well she was picked up at the weekend, and the guy has rung to say the rear diff is gone, but the ird is fine!!! Woohooo!!

So, I have sourced a second hand rear diff, so... she will be fixed... HOWEVER, other half wants to get rid once fixed!!

Good job Suz, I have sourced a local guy who is breaking a FL1, will be salvaging what I can, could have kept the rear diff for you.

As Freelance says.................its the FL1 or the other half, plus you get to keep the dogs....and the chrome!

If you have something in mind then go for it but the FL1 will serve you well..............despite their faults, a great looking motor!

Other half fancies a toyota hilux, the only other 4x4 I have had is a swb shogun, but I like the freelander.

The garage hasn't told us 'why' yet, but he has stripped it all down, so assume we will find out when we collect it. Part being delivered to him tomorrow, so might have it back in a few days I hope!!
