hi just found a leak on my 300tdi just behind the alternator any ideas on what it is and a fix sorry for asking so many questions but complete newbie with landrover :)

P gasket it one of the water pump gaskets in between the pump, the cambelt cover and the engine block. There's another gasket there too, which might also be leaking. Its a common issue and not too hard to fix.

I dare say there's a few threads on this very job, since its quite common. I can only use the search button as well as you, so a seach using appropriate terms should find something. Haynes manual covers it (indirectly) but I think its a bit vague. From memory, you need to remove the fan, drivebelt(s), and then start unbolting things at the front of the engine. Since you need to drain the coolant anyway, you could remove the radiator to create more space to work in.

the p gasket sits behind water pump housing ,which is also bracket for power steering pump and alternator , is nothing to do with cam belt housing ,remove these and it will become obvious ,drain block with brass bung on block behind alternator

well i've ordered a new p gasket and 3 new long bolts for next Saturday or Sunday hopefully the new rocker gasket comes as well get all them changed at once :)

cheers chap you lot are a helpful bunch. any one have any idea what the wire on the throttle is for as mine was disconnected.
