Alright lads.
I am currently on a long trip to Malaysia and back in my defender 130Tdi and iam currently in Kyrgyzstan where everything was going well till the police stopped me as my headlights were not working. Checked the fuses everything okay, checked the bulbs everything okay,my guess is the light relay switch on the steering column what do you think. Bye the way the sidelights are working, fullbeam is working but not the halfbeam. Anybody got any ideas. Many Thanks for your help.

I have a 300TDI and the fuse box is on the right hand side looking from the front as per the pics. Can't remember which one is the light fuse but when I had this problem a new fuse sorted it!

I think for the 200tdi the box is on the other side as the turbo is higher.

if it's the stalk and you can't get you hands on one I'd either. get my hands on a wiring diagram and bridge the wiring at the stalk so they are one permanently or I'd cut and join the wiring at the headlight so high beam controlled low beam and you have normal lights for getting home.

Not ideal but better than being stuck

That happened to me last summer in Spain. the problem was the headlamp relay which is in the fuse box behind the gear stick. If I remember rightly, there are are row of relays under the fuses. Two are the same colour - I think yellow. One is for the lights, the other for the starter. Taking mine out and cleaning the pins solved my problem. Good luck. I envy your trip!

Many Thanks for all of your help. Checked all the fuses but everything was okay. Decided to buy a new switch, 20 quid for a lucas one. However sent Paddocks, Rimmer Bros, and Cradocks an email 2 days ago still no reply (Brilliant Service From Them All ) Been in touch with Caspian motors in Almaty, they want 90 quid for a new switch the robbing buggers. Will let you know how I go on.

Anyway many thanks once again.
