I bought my 90 4 weeks ago with the intention of getting it ready for some mild off roading and some trips to spain. The first few weeks have been a right royal pain in the arse, i thought id share my trials and tribulations with you all as i set off on this road of renovating the 90

Ive decided to call him Dennis after my favorite character from the Beano, also because he's black and red (well he has a white top as he's getting old).
What i have done so far ...
Fitted new rear brake pads and bled system
Had all the welding done for the MOT
Fixed all the little niggles for the MOT
So now i have an MOT its taxed and on the road..
this is how he started - dusty but what seemed like a good buy

There are a few bits i need to sort out before driving to Spain in October..
Replacing the shocks - may as well do the springs too - not going to lift but stay with standard height

Ive also got to replace this - what ever its called?

Ive decided to wait to the LRO show in Peterborough - luckily its very close to me, so i'll hopefully pick up some bargains there

Meanwhile i'll fit the RX8 seats ive just bought..

Couple of questions - whats the best soundproofing for the money - ive had a look at dynamat and choked at the price, so it there is a cheaper solution which gives good sound proofing, i'll have a go at that..

anyway - onwards and upwards (i hope)

For the floors & footwells, stable matting works pretty well, and is cheap and hardwearing. That looks like the drop arm balljoint in your picture. Bit of a PITA to replace sometimes, more awkward than technical. If you're buying the part, the genuine item seems to fit better than the cheap copies. If there isn't any play in the joint and it's just the rubber boot that has failed, you might get away with just changing the boot for now, but it will need changing at some stage.

im learning that alot of jobs ive attempted so far seem to be a PITA, every nut is either seized or mangled ...

I changed the whole arm after spending hours trying to just change the joint!

Camping matts are good for sound proofing, have made a massive difference in mine. Make sure you use "High temperature adhesive" or it will all come off in hot weather.

Manged to do some stuff to Dennis today..
Removed middle seat - to be replaced by a console (more stuff i need from LRO show), fitted one RX8 seat - must say its rather nice, and fitted some new sockets and a volt meter that arrived from Amazon today

today i encountered a big wobble going around a corner, felt like the wheel had come loose, was rolling around all over the place...
Question is - looks like the drop arm is fubar, what else should i replace at the same time?

after that set back ive now replaced the swivel, the CV joint, drop arm ball joint, steering damper and now ive started on the mods..

Great. My handling and road feel were improved a lot when I replaced the swivel bearings top and bottom on mine. You might want to do the other side too!
