As Land Rovers leak, has anyone used a dehumidifier in one to keep the inside drier..?
I am mainly thinking disco's here that have the soundproofing that absorbs water and then rots the boot and footwells. If it can be kept dry, the rot box will last longer.
I have seen these cheapish ones on ebay Mini Small Air Dehumidifier 500ml Portable Home Bathroom Garage Car | eBay
Just wondering what yer thoughts are on the things etc..

Before I get stoned for not including a piccy, here is a random shot of some Cornish building maintenance..

When I get a water leak job after it is fixed I sometimes stick an industrial dehumidifier in it over night. bone dry in the morning.

my landy dont leak...
:D
nor did mine till a couple of nights ago....

we did have a tad of rain tho`...

noahs ark was seen floating past I was told....

still, must admit, never thought of using my portable aircon/dehumidifier unit inside me landie, but being a "heavy bastid" thing, i`d need help lifting it into the back....

good idea to use one tho`

Winter time, in an attempt to thaw the kids out in the morning (house has no CH) I run an extension lead (done the previous evening) from the wood shed with a timer & a 2 kw heater that sits in the 110. Half an hour before we leave for work/child minders the heater defrosts & warms the interior (kids cant wait to get in). One windows ajar for the cable, so all of the moisture is driven out. Warm 110 with clear windows & no condensation.:D

i have a normal house one, i put it both our cars for 24-48 hours. the windows are perfect afterwards, usually takes about 0.5 litre of water out in 48 hours when not done for 6 months or so. but i only do it because i have one.

Excellent ideas, I have a large aircon/dehumidifier for the house so I will give that a go when I can be bothered to see if it gets any moisture out. I have just wired up a 2kw heater and put it in the Defender whilst it is parked up in the shed. The trip switch for the shed is in the house and I have turned it off as nothing is on in there anyway so just flick the switch in the morning before I go out to my warm and toasty car.

That small dehumidifier won't do much. You need to buy a bigger one. I got this one from argos but it seems to have doubled in price since I got mine a few years ago. Works well. Only needs a few hours 2 or 3 times a year.

Thanks for the imput chaps. We have a big dehumidifier here already, so I am gonna try n drag that into the boot and fire it up.

I tried the dehumidifier (a largish one) in the disco. It was nicer air in there when I got in in the mornin, but its not drying out the sound proofing under the carpet, so the next night I rolled back the carpet n soggy sound proofing as best I could but its still not working well.
Gonna have to get the seats out, roll the carpet n underlay back and then try again

My soundproofing was the same in my 300 Disco I took it to a local powder coaters who put it on top of the ovens it was bone dry when I picked it up later that day :)
