Hi I have just seen this on face book thought it was worth posting just to make Defender owners aware that theives appear to have been operating in the North East over the week end taking Defender parts.

Do you own a Land Rover Defender? Police are advising owners to take extra care of their vehicles after thieves stripped body parts from two Defenders the night before last.

Sometime during Sunday night, 28th December or early on Monday morning thieves targeted a Defender parked outside its owner’s home in Gordon Terrace, Wolsingham and a similar vehicle parked in a barn at a farm in Stanhope.

In the first incident they removed the driver’s door and the front headlights, but the items were left at the scene suggesting they may have been disturbed before they could strip other parts from the vehicle.

At the farm in Stanhope, situated just off the A689 they managed to remove and escape with the bonnet, the driver and front passenger doors and the wing mirrors. This theft is thought to have happened sometime between 4am and 10.45am, when the owner realised what had happened and informed police.

Police suspect the thieves are deliberately targeting Land Rover Defenders for any parts of the vehicle which can be removed and sold on.

“If you own a Defender please check your security arrangements and do all you can to secure the vehicle,” said Det Con Tony Kent of the serious crime team in Crook.

“The thieves have clearly identified a market for these items, especially the doors. We are making enquiries in the area and would like to hear from anyone who might have heard of these vehicle parts being offered for sale.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

I think once I've fitted the door hinges and front bonnet, I'm going to pop a bit of weld into them. If I need to get them off I'll just drill them out. :)

Repairing the one off Gordon terrace at mo
Bar stewards have made a mess
No other comments on here tho other than they know what there doing

I had my last one nicked twice, once from the village and then from Heaton... Surely I've had enough bad defender luck :(

I hope you have a tracker fitted.?!

My last one was a heap of crap to be fair... Wasn't the hardest vehicle to break into! Was just very unlucky to have it nicked twice... The first time i had only had it for a few weeks.
I believe they are actually in jail too... Or they were! It was an organised gang took it the first time, was found in a lock up south of Sunderland with quite a few more that had been taken.

My new one has quite a lot of security devices on it and where it's parked it's not very easy to move around it, you'd have to be very skinny to even be able to get to the doors :)

I think the Disclocks are proberbly the best form of security!

Well I have both! The last one had the pedal plate and gear lock and column lock the second time it was stolen so I assume it was put on a truck...

It is a worry when you read about these things happening in your area though. I would be gutted if this one was damaged or taken.

You have done what you can.
The sad truth is if they want it they will have it. You just have to make it more difficult and try and make them move onto the next one.
