Hi whilst doing some isolation work, noticed the outrigger i had welded about a year back appears to have just been waxoyled over so checked the invoice & i was charged for the other side which was absolutely fine but obviously i can't prove that this far down the line so i wont name them

Is this outrigger

Youl get a better idea when you've had a good poke at it & removed all the waxoil looks fairly solid & fixable to me.

Dumb iron with 2 bumper bolts ??

Edit I now see the stone guard.
 
I’m not a welder/metalworker but it still looks to have plenty of solid metal left. If you are in an area that gets the roads gritted a lot in winter the salt can bite pretty hard pretty quickly on new bits of steel.
 
Isn’t the outrigger that bit that sticks out under the door or somewhere round that area. I’m sure that’s the bit they replaced on my last Landy. But then what do I know :D
 
Thanks for the correction there, this sites always helpful - I thought this was an outrigger is because I showed them it this part was a rusty bugger & felt it needed welding :oops: you can tell i'm new to this!!

Glad i didnt order a spare part then... Any experienced welders like to let me know what to expect cost wise so i dont have my pants pulled down?

£50 for an angle grinder
£20 for some 1mm cutting discs and a couple of wire twist brush heads
About £250 for a descent second hand mig welder and gas
£50 worth of steel to practice on
Several hours watching you tube and practicing
£5 small piece of 2-3mm steel for the patch
£0 for every bit of future chassis welding, which it will definitely need, beacsue you now have an essential Land Rover skill.

I do not know how much a garage would charge for the repair, but the above is what I did when I was a student and needed some chassis repairs. The price the garage quoted me was more money than it would cost to buy the tools, so I bought the tools and taught myself. I then later did an evening course at the local college, one you can weld, you will find no end of thing to weld, especially if you like old vehicles!
 
1/2 hour per slide if you just want it plated in 3mm steel, did both sides on mine a few years back, slather the inside with wax of your choice, job done.
