Morning all, got a 2001 110 td5. Wiper motor burnt out last week and put a new one in this morning. New motor and new gears. Fitted it and works find when the wipers are away from the windscreen, put them on the glass and they won't move. I say they work fine when away from the windscreen they do seem slow but difficult to tell for sure.
Any thoughts please it's raining and I'm fed up !

Are the wiper arm spindles stiff to turn (a common issue), could have been the cause of the original burning out and the new one being slow.

Edit: Ah by gears did you mean the wheel boxes?

You should be able to work the wipers by hand by pushing and pulling on the drive cable when the motor drive unit is disconected . If this is fine then there may not be enough oomph in the electrics for some reason. Power up with cables direct from battery as a test.

Thanks will try that. Fitted a new stalk today aswell to see if that was the issue. But it made no difference. The wipers move freely by hand when I pull/push the cables.

By gears I mean the gears inside the motor, it came minus them.
If that is the case then is the small ball bearing that pushes on the end of the armature (at the worm end) up against the shaft. It keeps the armature in the correct place and stops it rubbing on the casing

Trying to attach a video but without success. Does this pic look like the correct set up?

Something not quite right to me,I think the end of the worm drive should be further towards the limit stop pad on the right.

I do think moving the adjuster on the right to prevent binding may help,as per Kwackerman's post.
