Hallo,
found a 35 pages manual "Defender Water Ingress, Service Rectification Processes". Seems to be not unusual to have water penetrating. Repair advice mentions Clear Sealant, DumDumStrips, DumDum. Does somebody know details about that stuff and where to get. I am riding the TD5 in Germany.
Best regards, Manfred

Hi Manfred,

PRO FORM - Products

That is the sort of dum dum strip you mention, clear sealant it just... well clear silicone! (or black!)

Tiger seal is pretty good as well.

However it will be pretty much whatever you can lay your hands on over there.

I've used Sikaflex 291i Black (marine sealant) that seems to work well. Easy to use and can be squeezed into tight corners.

Water pi$$es in to the passenger footwell on our 300tdi when it rains.

I've replaced the door seal and used silicone sealer. I've greased the seal, replaced the vent flap seals, reset the door striker so it closes properly, and water still pi$$es in when it rains.

I can't see where it is coming in. There are no rust holes in the bulkhead or footwell etc.

My TD5 looks the same and does not leak at all. I am not sure water leaks can always be cured. I was at the dealer today sat in a new Defender.
The saleswoman approached and we started chatting. She said "l love these but they leak water and it put me off getting one"

Folks, thank you all for the hints. Its a bit funny, that a car designed in a rainy country shows best performance in desert areas. Nevertheless will try to cure with the nice sealants you recommended.
