More than likely a question that has been asked many many times but I've been searching for days and found nothing that answers my question. I'll start off with the main problem. My 19J's radiator is kaput, missing fins, corroded, leaking etc so it needs replacing. I don't however want to replace it with another full length rad for a 19J, as I wish to drop a 200tdi in at some stage in the future, so a full length would be wasted money. Now I know when fitting a discovery 200tdi to a Defender that you have to drop the radiator mounts by 28mm, but what about for a Defender radiator and intercooler?

I'm under the impression that a complete setup, frame, radiator and intercooler for a Defender 200tdi will drop nicely into a 19j - am I right? In which case, where can you get complete frames?

Many thanks chaps if you can solve my headache!

I think the rads are the same for discoverys and defenders

So where does the difference lie? AlliSport's 200 frames are more expensive for the Discovery variant than the Defender, maybe because they're slightly larger? I'll ring them on Monday and ask.

Why is nothing simple :D

As I've only got my phone to do the searching on, looking on eBay the frames are the same for 200tdi's and 300's I know some people have swapped over the intercoolers when swapping engines from discos to tratters

Okay new problem. If I buy a 200tdi radiator, can I unscrew the adapters for the oil cooler, unscrew the adapters from my TD radiator, and screw the TD adapters into the 200tdi radiator?

The Discovery and Defender 200Tdi radiators are the same and the frames are also the same except for the mounting brackets where is fixes in the engine bay. The Defender mounts fix to the top of the frame and the Discovery fix at the bottom and the sides.

When I fitted a Discovery 200Tdi radiator to my '84 110 I had to cut the bottom mounts on the chassis down otherwise the whole lot sat up too high. I also had to cut the side mounts off the frame and fit new mounting pins to the top of the frame for the existing 110 radiator mounts to fit.

I replaced my radiator for a 200tdi one and the oilcooler pipes would not fit
thanks to James pointing that out
you can get the adapters from ebay, but I was going to get the pipes replated
so in the end I ordered new pipes, but they aint cheap

Do you know what adapters would be needed mate? Could you possibly link me? And did you have to lower the radiator mounts to fit the 200 rad?

No fitted in the frame fine, intercooler was a pig
had to cut down the rubber mounts

with the 300, the intercooler connector is slightly different on the disco and defender. you can still shove a pipe on, but's at a slightly different angle.

maybe the same on the 200's?

Will the 200tdi rad provide sufficient cooling for the 19j as you are effectively reducing the radiator surface area by about a third, i only ask ask i was thinking of doing the same myself but was concerned about cooling.

Stick the intercooler on as well then, that'll help the old 19j out
