The bulkhead is the issue, It's had outer repair plates but it's the door A pillars that have rotten, footwell and vent area are fine, It's been like that for 8 years. I keep emptying cans of WD40 into the pillars every few months and it's held it back. The chassis is fine, 2 new outriggers but may need one on the other side in the not so distant future, sailed through it's recent MOT. I know the mods don't add value it just changes the look of it really.

It's had ££££'s spent in the form of service history, engine receipt, chassis etc.

I was tempted to replace the bulkhead or repair it but I was seeing if I'd be able to reach 2.5K without doing it.

I might look into replacing the bulkhead but I'm running out of time and space and not to mention funding. I know it's only 250 but thats a lot for a student in debt :)
 
after all theese pie in the sky valuations did we actually get to the bottom of the year of the landy???
spending money on serviceing and garage bills doesnt put that money on your motor.ie if you put a new engine in and it costs you £1500 you cant then just bung £1500 on the asking price.
you keeping your motor up together just makes it more appealling to the buyer as they can see its been looked after

I think you may be pushing it to get £4000 for a 200tdi Hard top. If it was a station wagon then YES but not for a hard top.

I can't sell it for less than 2500 so i'll have to see what happens, I'd rather break it and store the bits for the future :D There's 3 landy's and 2 cars in the household and not enough room for the defender to sit there doing nothing.
 
They go really cheap on ebay, I think i'm going to stick it on the forecourt of the landy garage i used to work at.
 
They're going really cheap everywhere. As we've been trying to tell you.. I know someone who runs a large car dealership and he has told his salesmen not to take any 4x4 in Part Ex. Unless it's mint and the seller won't buy unless they take it. and in that case to offer rock bottom prices at least 50% below book price.
 
He's sold a few 90's n 110 recently on J plates or there abouts and each one over 6K, I know it's completely different from a trader etc but i do think 2.5k is possible with the right buyer.
 
how old is your 110? is it a disco conversion? did you keep the original lt77 box?
when you say outriggers , it needs new ones?

you could probably palm it off to someone who doesnt know what they are looking at if you dress it up but would you be able to do that to someone?

and if you dont mine me asking , how much did you pay for it, how long ago?
 
I know from his previous posts that he got it off his father Who had it a few years before that. I believe it started life as a V8.

It's a 1990 fitted with a 200 tdi out of a defender 110 csw, i have the original LT77 in it and a later one with it. The out riggers on the drivers side have been replaced and the front one on the passenger side has a golf ball size hole, other than that it's a good solid chassis. My dad bought it about 8 years ago for 1500 with the 2.5td engine and knackered rear cross member, tatty roof which has been replaced with the later smooth one.

It was used as a holiday vehicle, fitted with cooker and fridge etc before it was handed down to me but i just can't find a decent reason to keep it.

Basically wanted to know if i'd get 2.5k for it or would i have to make it a real minter to get that kinda doe.

I bought a v8 engine from a csw to put in the defender after rebuilding it onto a 90 chassis but decided against that idea in the end.
 
Looking on autotrader 2.5k is in the middle of the asking prices for that age defender with tdi conversion so I'm going to give it a try, got nothing to loose.
 
get it on e bay , but first get that out rigger done.
you have to spend some to make some m8y.

when people come to look at it you dont want to give them too much leverage , but , if you ask silly money people will go elsewhere and look at something better.

e bay it with a 2.5k reserve, see what happens.
be honest though , dont try and tart it up unless you do the work properly.
basically , let it sell itself.
id say the only people who would be interested are people looking for a 'fixer upper' and who can do the work them selves.
and there are pleanty of people like this out there.
 
There are always people out there looking for something. I paid £2,500 for a 1986 90 in bright yellow with a 2.5 N/A diesel engine. I bought it because it has character, but I wouldn't have touched it if the chassis or the bulk head had been bad. Luckily, both are absolutely fine. The chassis still has clean metal beneath the waxoyl if it's scratched and the bulkhead only has a couple of bubbles which I've already sanded down and filled. Rock solid! Is there nothing you can do to give it a bit of character? Painch coat it camouflage for example?
