Hi guys and gals,

im loving being the proud owner of a 1988 110 county v8. Bought it for my girlfriend nearly 2 years ago and never thought id like it so much ha ha. Unfortunatly the lpg system must have been fitted by a guy in his shed with no hope. Scotchlocks here there and everywhere and all the same colour wire(aaarrrgg) was running sweet then just stopped running on gas.

Bought a brand new dizzy new plugs new fuel pump rebuilt the twin su's new seals ect new sentech leads changed the oil and filter(i knew it wouldnt fix it) ive re done the wires to the switch the relay in the front and the fuel pump cut off.
the switch works and energizes the relay the solenoid in the tank clicks when you switch it and the gas flows and comes out of the pipes to the manifolds but it cuts out after about 3 seconds everytime. i have concerns about the vacuum or pressure switch but this just switches the negetive on the vapourizer so i earthed the solinoid on that and it does the same.

any help would be much appreciated what with the petrol prices and all.:)

cheers very much oli

Is it a 2 position or 3 position switch?

My guess is that it's a 2 position switch and that the engine is stalling cos it's overfuelling. Try pulling the fuse on the electric petrol pump and then after a few seconds (when the engine sounds like it's starting to cough) flick to gas. If this works, replace the 2 position switch with a 3 position one. The central position is the switchover position (neither fuel supply working) to prevent overfuelling occuring.

Any idea what system it is?
There are a large number of things which I'd look at, but narrowing it down via the system might be a good approach....
The LPG controller may have a sense line for engine revs... if that's not ok, it may think you've stalled (before you have stalled) and cut the fuel... hence you stall....
If it's an injection petrol system... the "emulator injectors" could either be faulty, or their "pick-line" could be badly connected - hence it's still injecting petrol as well as LPG which might cause it to stall.
Any signs of ice on the vapouriser?

Sorry, just seen the bit about carbs.... maybe I should learn to read.

Cheers for the ideas. all the system is is a pressure switch connected to a solenoid on the vapourizer and a solenind in the gas line then a relay at the front and another solenoid in the tank with a 3 pos switch linking them and the fuel pump cut off. i cant see anything else other than the silly gauge that is.

If possible, I would check the connections on the tank solenoid and make sure it's working 100%... I had one once which would pick on switch-over but was intermittently dropping closed (bad line from the engine bay to the tank solenoid) and 3 seconds was about how long it would run on the fuel already in the pipes/vapouriser.
Get a meter clipped on the tank solenoid connections and get somebody to fire it up and switch it over for you... ?
