Okay, so I've seen this done on minis and beetles, but has anyone ever created one for their defender - a chopped back end chassis with rear tub on and tow hitch front?

Using the wonders of photoshop I've created the image below and would love to have a go at building it.....not sure what I'd use it for, but I'm sure I could strap the dogs in it or something!;)

Currently saving for our wedding in May, but after this I'm going to need a project. Any advice, pictures of others, free axles, chassis and tubs! Would be much appreciated

Stu:)

Could you not use a sanky and stick a rear tub on it?

Hmmmmm....looks promising! Might jump on eBay and price up what's needed....although I've still got a couple of months before I can put any money into it...damn wedding :)

There was a sankey base going on eBay last week but far too much for just that at £200. Now a wide track one would be brilliant

It's a very old idea which has been done many times before, neatly done it can look quite good but as far as practicality goes a Sankey is a better bet as the bodywork is much stronger and resiliant to knocks & scrapes when the trailer is in use.
One of the most "interesting" variations on the same theme was when a Series LWB rear-tub & hard-top was used and the owner used it as a compact caravan for sleeping in, actually looked very good hitched up to the (colour-matched) LWB which was towing it.

One of the mid wales lads had a disc and then had an identical disco that he'd converted into a caravan. Both painted the same and both with a big red welsh dragon on it...absolutely awesome looking and had a use too.

Not sure why youd do this project tbh...i must be the only one that thinks they look a bit pants and why would you bother ...?

One matey was selling them at Newbury spares day last year. Had series rear tub on a shankey trailer frame and a defender one both on back of a flatbed lorry. God knows how much he was selling them for.
