Help,

My 2000 Defender TD5 will not start. All electrical power seems OK. the starter turns but the engine won't fire. It happened first after being driven for aprox 5 minutes and then left for 10. It happened again as I was reversing away having left her standing fro approx 1 hour. The vehicle now starts intermittently. I am reluctant to drive her in case she dies on me. Interestingly the temp guage is indicating very high nearly in the red although the engine is clearly not hot. although I remain unconvinced I am thinking that there may be an electrical fault indicating a high temperature that is preventing the vehicle from starting. Alternatively I am considering a fuel issue as it has had problems in the past although the symptoms were dissimilar.

Any help, opinions or advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks drewster, have looked up online - is this an easy fix or something worth getting a garage to do? Looks relatively straight forward.

ignition off
spray brake cleaner ( should be able to buy as aerosol) from motor factors cleean ecu plugs and let dry.

injector loom needs replacing under rocker box

Ratty has a thread on it

Cheers fellas looks like the problem. new injector loom v expensive. any ideas?
Cant seem to find the ratty thread - any chance of a link?

Also check the main ECU earth is clean and tight.
New injector loom is about £30 depending where you get it from if I recall correctly.
Will take about half an hour to change including having a brew while you do it.

Sweet, Thanks

Just ordered one from Defender bits as they seemed cheapst/most reliable.

Will check ECU earth and may just change Injector loom as a preventative measure as I am getting the feeling it will do no harm to change out the original faulty part. I found a thread on another site that said that if oil was prsent then the injector and engine harness would need changing - is this right? I am figuring that as She is starting inconsistently I may not be at this tragic extent yet.

Cheers
