Hi there,
Last fri i got a Defender td5 1999.

I just thought i would check the red plug that is known for getting oil in from the injector loom.

Now when i pulled it out i noticed there was oil in it so i have just cleaned it out and left it to stand overnight to let it drain to see if anymore would come out and i will check in the morning.

I was wondering if there was anyone local to me (telford Little wenlock) that may have changed the injector loom on a defender or i suppose a disco as i think they are the same.

Please let me know your thoughts thank you jeremy

what is the best thing to clean the red plug out tho? i used contact cleaner. got brake clutch too is that better. do the new looms stop it all together or dose it come back? cheers

I just changed my injector loom last weekend. Was a bit apprehensive but it was a doddle - very easy to do.

The oil in my red plug was causibng the battery to discharge, i used contact cleaner which worked fine, but the oil is still weeping into the plug from the loom, through hopefully it will stop soon :D

Where abouts do u live as i am not sure if i want to do it on my own. Or is there anyone willing to help (shropshire) tks jeremy

This might sound like a stupid question but can u remove the ecu without disconnecting the battery at all or do you need to disconnect the battery? cheers.

Yes, but you should disconnect the battery before changing the loom and before spraying the contact cleaner.

Well this morning after leaving to drain overnight i put the ECU back in. I then cleaned out the MAF sensor and the MAP sensor. they were both quite dirty. after cleaning and reassembling i took it out for a run. I cant believe the difference. no more stuck at 55mph with it missing and better pulling up hills. WORTH DOING IT ALL.
