You going to have to take the rocker cover off, the timing chain housing, and the sump to find the culprit, please post pictures etc, as it may help another person in the futureAny idea on what the plastic is from?
The dipstick does have a black plastic tip on the very end of it. Early TD5's had a reputation for oil pump bolt unscrewing and causing engine failure, there was a mod that was carried out to stop this on later models and modified bolt available for DIY use, (thread lock on threads).
Link to Disco TD5 bolt replacement to show it. (Half way through video)
Thanks For the reply, I have read a lot about this bolt issue, however I was wondering if there could be something else that would cause fragments of plastic to be in the sump
Today started up the Defender and heard a bit of a clunk, oil light stayed solid, turned it off.
I found a small piece of black plastic on the dipstick.
Any thoughts, Do I have big problems!
