Just done mine. I took the belt off using a 15mm spanner on the belt tensioner and just worked down the back of the fan and out the bottom of engine bay.
Then used a cycle inner tube round the fan pulley for grip and a strap off the chassis, 36mm spanner and a extension pole. Pulled strap tight and with the extra leveridge it just undone. No hitting with a hammer that won't prolong the life of the bearings.
It undoes anti clockwise.
