Land rover now call them towing eyes which is a marked change. I wouldn't recover a stuck vehicle off em though.Hahahaha I would and I dont mind the idea of Jates but they can be a little tough to get to sometimes! Considering the chassis legs could be burried before the xmember, then again before I head out could always fit a strap...
I quite like fit and forget, but tbh this works for me so far.
But i must ask, everyone says "do not use the lashing eyes on the front/back" Now is that down to the eye itself or the bolt? As Jate rings use the same bolt wich to me is pretty small!

Regarding your original post, I wouldn't use just the rear cross member, hence belt and braces LR design with using chassis and the rear cross member to support towing You need to keep in mind it needs to tow up to 3 odd tonne. They were tying down points but are now towing points. Maybe the newer chassis are stronger?They were always lash down points on the chassis. Also keep in mind if you have replacement cross member/extensions that you may well not have the appropriate re-enforcements to cater for this e.g crush tubes.

Also, ref the bolt being threaded into the Cross member. My tuppence worth, I would have thought that this was not correct, and that the bolts should have nuts and washers on the inside and also utilise a spreader plate. BUT then I would have thought this was the way it should also be for the adjustable towing point anyway. Then again I may be wrong......

@neilly y I am not! lol I had a look at it last night, while that mod works for a 90 it does not work for a 110, especially with a tank guard in place.
The support arms/brackets just dont like up what ever what you put them, even cutting and drilling wouldnt help.
Decided to go for a NAS style rear step, with a bolt on hoop as pictured before. The idea being the NAS step is bolt in through the middle of the xmember, each end of the xmember as well as chassis support arms/brackets. Should spread the weight of any recovery while not ruining the departure angle.
Thats the idea anyway...
I'd fit a DixonBate type of towing pin to the step once you've fitted it. You can get a 5T rated one which attaches with four bolts so should be strong enough as a recovery point. Also handy for when you do need to tow something as you have the jaw/pin and a standard ball hitch.
