Be suprised if it was loose they are normally a hell of a fight to change, nut might come loose but the arm is normally well stuck together and heat and hammers or a grinder are required to get it off.. If it is loose i would be tempted to change the arm or at least the Track rod end while it easy..

Been trying to put a Track rod end in mine for days off and on

It was held by the locking washer so wouldn't of dropped off but certainly wasnt right
Its fooking tight now so il see how she goes tomorrow

They are known to come loose, When refitting more so with a new arm it is worth doing a check say at 500mls

Went to work in the landy today as usual and the steering is now quite heavy (was always light before) and I now have a death wobble at about 50
So back to the drawing board

Did you change the panhard bushes and tighten the bolts up super feck off tight?

when my steering goes heavy it is always the PAS belt has slipped a bit, mine has 200 tdi conversion and it and the alternator are a bit of a pain to get tight and keep tight..

I have been losing power steering when I go through water recently
It never used to do that and my 300 tdi lightweight doesnt do it

Sprayed steering column ujs with duck oil acfew times and it has helped so I've ordered a new pair
Is the bottom bearing in the column itself available or does anyone know what size it is ?

The power steering pump does have a limited life. I had to change mine at the end of 2017 The steering was becoming stiff occasionally, and then became stiff all the time. With a new pump it was very light indeed, which suggests it must have been losing efficiency for a while.

I sprayed the steering shaft ujs with duck oil and the steering went light again so I'm changing them tomorrow

Changed the panhard rod bushes ,there was slight play in one of them and it seems to have solved the problem
I broke my trusty old draper vice in the process so I'm shopping for a record vice now !
Anyone with death wobble check your panhard rod

When I last change all the steering and suspension bushes to eliminate a wobble, we got the press up to 13t before the old bushes popped out!
