I got this one for mine: LEATHER STEERING WHEEL & BOSS KIT FIT LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 110 130 200 300 TDI | eBay

The dish of the wheel brings it very high, especially with the long boss kit but I like it, and it was cheap enough to take a punt. I have about 8 inches of knee room with it, before I had none.

They also sell shorter boss bits and non-dished steering wheels, which would mean you could reach the indicators but have probably half the knee clearance.

Before you look at brand and best, you have to note that there are two different types of types of splines for defenders depending on year.

As for brands, can't say any is best, there are many good quality manufacturers like Momo, Sparco, Mounty to name a few. Styles of wheel will depend on you and your taste. If you are shortish and like a lighter turning effort, you would want a wheel that's lower to the indicator stalks and closer to a stock wheel diameter.

Depending on how tall or short you are, the steering wheel height will determine comfort and effort too. I am tall so will go with a smaller wheel which sits as low as it can on the steering colum splines. I have one which I acquired in a package purchase, I don't like the height nor wheel thickness but will machine a spacer to make it sit lower.

Spacer will sit at the bottom of the hub with wheel below...not a conventional set up, but it will work for now if I don't get one before the end of my rebuild.

There was a thread here quite recent as well regarding steering wheels, you should do a search.

Here is a pic of mine

This is how the one I have sits now, not the way it was intended to but how it will fit after I machine a spacer between the hub and the wheel.

I have attached some bolts to measure the wheel to stalk depth checking for clearance, comfort, safety and practically.

yu come on, dont say what model vehicle you have, ask about a steering wheel, someone posts a link, which it transpires isnt for your year or model, but you buy it and then whinge when it doesnt fit and ask us how many splines are on the steering of your car, when you have to take the wheel off anyway?

that sounds like a sensible thing to do

I have a sneaky suspicion he aint gonna stay long
