Hi all , I need to replace the drop arm and bottom seal on my 300tdi 110 . I need some advice on the best way to reach it . There seems to be little room to to maneuver a spanner and a lot of pipes and hoses going across the top of it . On the Trailerfitter's Toolbox videos on YouTube the wing appears to be off the vehicle when he's changing it . Any advice on how to tackle the job ? Thanks , Gerry .

Probably had the wing off for filming, not necessary to just change the box. Both arm and seal can be changed in situ.
If the arm can be moved side to side, back and fore likely its worn and need to be changed.
Getting the arm off is the first problem, it is on a taper and is usually tight.
Britannica Restorations have good video's.

I had my steering box changed in the summer and the garage didn’t need to remove the wing. The arm was seized on the old box too.:mad:

Where about are you located?

Getting the arm off can be a bit of a challenge.
I have a 10 Tonne hydraulic puller that eventually got the job done. I have lent it to others to remove their drop arm.

Thanks Grebby , but I am in Ireland . I would just use an angle grinder and chisel on the arm , it's the lack of access to the fluid pipe nuts on the steering box that bothered me . Maybe when the steering shaft is removed I'll be able to get my hand in under all those pipes that run over the steering box .

I remember doing mine was a bit of a pain but not too bad. I've also got hydraulic lines and the pump for my winch on top of it all.

I have also previously swapped a steering box without removing the wing, I don't remember it being easy but what job on a land rover is. It was a few years ago so cannot remember the full details but definitely did not pull the wing off to replace it.
