what did you tighten!?

The steering box itself - on top of it next to the bleed nipple is an allen head bolt with a 19mm locking nut around it, loosen the 19mm off and wind the allen head one in a few turns to take up the wear and adjust the amount of free play in the box :)

You should do it with both front wheels off the ground, do it gradually and go lock-to-lock to check there are no tight spots etc.
 
ahhh i remember doing that on my old merc actually.. but if i moved it even very very slightly the steering wouldnt center its self. so left it as it was..
 
Apparently you should put the steering on full lock before adjustment as well, as it will be less worn than the centre point of the box. This will ensure you over tighten the box at its least worn section..
