Was wondering if it is possible that my 90 springs have settled down so that they are now about two inches lower than when new.

Reason I ask is that after searching:cool: and comparing spring rates etc, I find that the Disco one front springs are supposedly the same rating as the 90 front springs.

I have just fitted some old well used Disco one springs to the front of my 90 and when compared side by side with the ones that came off, the Disco springs were about two inches taller.

So have my 172k 90 springs shrunk or are the Disco ones different??

just taken my front springs off the std ones are 16 inch

have you fitted +2 ?

No they are standard early Disco 1 from a 200 tdi.

The 90 sits at the correct height with them on.

I did have them on the 110 and they gave a lovely ride so I think they must be softer springs which will be better for off roading (more axle articulation)

Not sure what to put on the rear now, got a choice of heavy duty or standard ones.

I had heavy duty on 110 for towing but not sure if I really need HD's on the 90 as she sits ok with a car on a trailer hooked up.

Can of worms:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Here's the 110 with Disco 1 springs on front and heavy duty 110 springs on rears

The springs can sag when I lifted my 90 with 2inch springs it acctually went up nearly 4inches showing that the originals had sagged

Is there a difference between disco front and rear springs?
Going to fit them on my 90 but forgot which are which

the rear are longer than the front

Mine aren't. The Disco fronts are two inches taller than my 90 ones but sit at the same height when fitted

New heavy duty rears are 15 and a half inches and old fronts are 15 to 15 and a half inches (one longer than the other)

Old standard 110 rear springs are 15 and three quarter inches

Seeing as fronts are heavier duty than rears, no reason for not putting fronts on rear instead of buying HD ones:)
Not on 110 though because rears are bigger diameter

Bit confused now because my new heavy duty rears stand at the same height as the standard ones I took off.

Maybe heavy duties are a little shorter because they are stiffer (ooh arrr missus):)

Heavy duty have a greater spring rate and so take more weight to compress so the height can stay the same but the amount that they compress under weight is less.

mine have definately sagged at the rear. putting my td5 side by side with my 300tdi you can tell the difference. mainly because i have towed with the tdi a lot.
