Strange how many people think that the Defender would be a poor vehicle in a collision. But this seems unlikely after looking up crashes that Defenders have been in. Including a 40mp one with a bus. The Defender driver was not injured at all and about 5 on the bus had minor injuries. Who needs airbags in a Defender!?

I rely on other peeps crumple zones. Defenders are not too good in sideways impacts but front or rear they'll take some abuse before they bend. If you have to just make sure you hit other cars front on and watch the expensive plastic fly. :)

hahaaa watch the plastic fly, like it! the side worries me a bit.. guna get some nice big tree and rock sliders i do think!

Best to avoid turning them over though, not much protection up top.

*edit*

Unless of course you have a roll cage as well ;)

Yeah I have got some rock / tree sliders on mine too. They're pretty solid. Gonna be getting a heavy duty bumper some time in the summer too. As the other guy said, the other car is the crumple zone :D. In regards to roll overs, because the cabin is so tall / deep, it is unlikely you will be crushe to death in a rollover. Many rollovers I have seen cause only minor injuries, one man had broken thumbs I believe. Not a broken head :p

Ah thats good to know then :)

Without it sounding like a cliche, you do feel safer with tougher bumper and something on the sides. Think it makes people more careful in car parks are well :D

I've lost count of the number of times some pig ignorant selfish dope has opened their door hard against my rock sliders in Sainsburys carpark. Makes me laugh when they get out and inspect their door for damage but ignore my motor. A suitable volley of well chosen words also makes me feel better.

Well i was obliged to go to Meadowhell for the sales (SWMBO) The place was absolutely rammed, overspill car parks, the lot. When we returned to Lucy 4 (don't ask) the spaces each side were vacant. Some people :) I can't understand it?

i notice quiet a lot of different colours of paint on my tree sliders after they were fitted. ahh supermarket car parks
We had some stupid girl run into the back of our stationary white 110 csw at 30 mph cos she didn't see us i ended up with wedge fractures in my spine and the wee man had internal injuries. She bent the rear cross member and a bit of the rear cross member leg and buckled the back door. i had to ask what type of car she was driving as the was feck all left of the front of it

I had a fairly slow speed crash the other day. About 5 or 10 mph. Not a scratch on mine but it pushed her boot lid the wrong way into the car, smashed her window and sent her off like a pin ball. I never even felt it, my seatbelt never even locked.

She must have done 15 yards before stopping.

I had a mitsubishi carisma (great name for a dull car) pull out in front of me a couple of weeks ago, whole offside front of his car totallly destroyed, mine blue paint mark on the winch bumper, right chuffed, made me smile for days that did.

I realise that the defender has little in the way of side protection but surely most cars would slot under the car (especially if they are braking hard). I guess if a 4x4 or lorry hit you side on then you would be toast?!
