i replaced my rear diff oil seal and fitted a new flange, following one of the guides on here, since then I have driven a few miles and at first all was fine, however now I have used it a bit more it appears to be leaking again.
So what could I have done wrong my thoughts are as follows
: the mudguard sits around 10mm from the diff, is this right or should it be flush? (Can't see this causing a leak but something I noticed)
: when I refilled the oil because of the way I had the tube angled I effectivly blocked the hole so a lot came out when I removed it so could I have overfilled the diff?
: is it worth me removing the prop and re-tourqing all the bolts to make sure none have worked loose since fitting?
: the seal was only a couple of pounds, is it simply a cheap crap part and I should just cough up the money and buy an expensive one!?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, I will try and get a picture this morning just in case something obvious. In the way I have fitted will be apparent to a more experienced owner.
Thanks

Yes I checked that as I had replaced it fairly recently, my only question (and it's possibly a silly one!)
It's the first time I have fitted a banjo bolt, I had originally just tightend up, however when I looked at it this time it occurred to me that maybe I should have lined up the holes, which I tried to do this time, is this the case and if so is there an easy way?

No need to line up holes, but do make sure the actual pipe is clear.
I would go for another seal cortico (spelling?) is a good make

more likely fitted too far in or if tapper home garter spring has popped off

I was careful when I fitted, the old one was flush with the top which I tried to match as best I could, however that one was leaking so maybe not the best one to copy!! New one was sent as part of a kit I think individually it was cheap £2/3 so wouldn't be surprised if it's the problem.
The breather is nice and clear only fitted the new one around 200 miles ago.
Now I know the procedure for replacing I may as well order up a decent one and try refitting.

On a separate note it made a god awful noise and some Klonking noises in reverse this morning, which was worrying!!

Thanks James should the outer edge of the seal be level with the casing? I will have some time later so will pop the prop off and have a look.
Just need to find a clean container for the fluid don't want to be buying more fluid!!

it depends on seal wherther frc8220 or later ftc5258 just below for former ,further in for latter due to mudsheild

It was the 8220, I used some grease to fit then tapped round the edge until it was flush. Seems to be a fair amount leaking which made me think it was more my error than inferior parts, going to double check the breather again but it's pretty much brand new

Finally got chance to take the prop off today and as normal James you were bang on the money, the garter spring has come loose once I had removed the prop I can feel part of the spring at the top.
I'm assuming it's probably not worth me trying again with the same seal and spring? Without removing the castle nut I can see the spring is pinched so I don't think it will go back right anyway.

So how do I avoid this? Is it just a case of being much more careful with the next one?

Thanks
Tony

I did smoother with grease the first time round I will get a better seal this time as well

Thanks again James much appreciate your help

Ok so I think I got to the bottom of the problem, the original seal I had fitted was not what I had asked for 8220 but rather the 4586 below is the remains of the one fitted which failed. So to try and avoid another mistake I took myself down to Landrover this morning and purchased the correct and ever so slightly more expensive original part 8220 pictured bottom, quiet surprised how much thicker the new part is, so with the correct part 8220 does this need to sit with the outer sides flush with the diff casing or just below?
