Hi All,

I need to replace ignition barrel and searched for suitable solution, lots if you have an older Landy without "new" 2.4tdci dash, with shelf!
Had steering cover, wheel, etc. off, but can't drill out bolts as suggested, fuse box and shelf in the way below steering column! Tried to use a dremel cutter, but struggling to make an impression on bracket on under side.

Anyone managed to change and if yes, how the HELL.......?

Your help much appreciated.

If I remember right when I put mine in the bottom collar is cast would it crack with a good tap? Surprised dremmel wouldn't cut it is there enough gap between the collar to cut the bolt? Imagine they'd be harder than the collar though. Could cut a slot into the bolthead and screw it out maybe?
I haven't sheared the bolts on mine yet but it haven't put my new puma dash back in yet does it not fit on/removable with with ignition barrel in place?

Hi Alex,

Thanks for response. Not enough room with the puma dash tray/fuse box below steering column to do much with slots and screwdrivers. Reluctant to hit column/collar as don't want to damage column. Think I'll have to persist with a new Clarkes rotary tool with flexible extension, original Black and Decker one has just died, not bad after 15years light use!!!

Will let you know if this weekends attempt is successful, subject to weather, watch this space and thanks again!

Just another idea with all the trim off and the clocks out can you drill it out from above?? I can't remember if it's blind holes or not but if not and you can get a bit down only need to go enough to remove threads one side then same other or crowbar and it'll probably crack or slide up the column. Good luck!
I bet there's a dead easy way if you know about it aha

Hi All,
Finally sorted with new Clarke's rotary tool to replace now dead Black and Decker one!

My method, which may help future Puma ignition changers, with the limited space due to new dash tray under steering column:-

1) With my new rotary tool managed to cut through right hand bolt.
2) Cut 2 parallel slits vertically on left hand collar around bolt and used chisel to remove piece.
3) Used chisel to open right hand side of collar, which then enabled me to almost hinge the collar off.
See photos below should have taken during project, but they're better than nothing to illustrate method.
Will be opening a new thread as now need to change door locks and having problems, surprise, surprise!!

Bet you're glad it's sorted, one of those 5 min jobs... haha
Can't offer much insight on door locks ima wait till mines been painted to fit mine. Got new ignition and door locks handles etc so I can't wait for that joy of a job... and window motors.. and central locking..

Hi Alex,
OK you were right, using chisel and hitting became last resort, at least sorted now. All this to save garage labour charges and mark up on parts, worth every penny/minute!
My Mrs writes off at least a day every time I say it's a quick job, she's right as usual!
Good luck with the project and hopefully the door lock change proves to be a quick job!

I’ve taken mine off and like a plonker not noted which wires go to which numbers! Can anybody help the wires are red sleeve with red/white wire .. black sleeve Brown/white wire..clear sleeve White wire .. Green sleeve Orange/white .. has anybody a picture or any info
