Hi, ive just passed my driving test and when looking at insurance coparison sites, I'm faced with a figure around the £1300 mark (ish), i know this is normal, but wondered if anyone knows of any companes that offer a more reasonable price for a standard G-reg defender 90?

Did you try confused.com? They halved my payment.

People talk about NFU, Tesco, Adrian Flux being good starting points. Also sometimes it's actually cheaper to go fully comp rather than 3rd party - i guess they think you're more likely to be a sensible driver if you're fully comp!

To be honest your best bet is to simply shop about, its not nice, it takes ages you end up talking to "Melissa" and "Joe" in India but you will get the best price.

It changes from postcode to postcode, I may be good with Adrian Flux here but where you are you might be better with Tesco.

I am with one of the ones advertised in the LR magazines but I don't think many of them do under 21's.

I read a post a while ago on here about someone using footman james and geting a right bargain and they were around 19 (although they didn't offer no claims), i went on there site yesterday for a quote and was greeted by a message saying they only quote drivers at least 25, im not sure whether that is company policy or just for their online quote service, still when i have the time i'll give thema ring

when i got my 1st own at around your age one or two years ago i ended up with it insured in my dads name with me as a named driver
some policies now evenoffer no claims to named drivers

Dicso, All Those In The LR Mag (At Least That I Tried) Would Give Me A Quote And I Was 17 When I Tried It.

i used footman james for my 1st year, on a classic car policy. this year i used adrian flux and did me a slightly better price but on a normal car policy so i start to build my no claims. so thats all good... i was 24 when with footman. give em a ring. is it diesel or V8 your G plate 90?

I'm 18, and have been on my mum's and dad's policy with NFU for over a year now. Recent renewal was just under £900, but it is a Td5.

Shop around!!!

Hi, thanks for all the advice, at least on here I feel ive got a little further than sites like confused and monsysupermarket etc, but i think like allways the best idea is to shop around, i'm still looking at the mo but will probably get it sorted after the pass pluss as ive herd that can reduce it slightly, and in somerset there is a government enniciative that makes it half price too :)

Hi, if you don't do the average 12K miles a year it might be worth trying someone like Adrian Flux. A few years ago I had a modified car that was cheaper to insure as modified on a limited mileage policy than a standard one would have been on a normal policy.

Hi there mate,I would go with nfu.
Im 17 and to insure my 1995 defender 90 300tdi with mods is £950 fully comp with my own policy.£200 exess. They seem to be fairly cheap.I was suprised when i insured my 2002 Freelander commercial td4.It was only £1100 which i thought was a bargain considering my age.
Hope this helps

I would definately reccomend NFU - £450 for a 17yr old as a named driver on a 1992 110 csw 200tdi.

Try ringing footman james back - i was told this, but rung them back and then got a quote, oddly enough. At 17 i paid £709 for my 110 NAD, now it is £558 for the 90 NAD, and i am 18 (Isnt that surprising...)
