Excuse me if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but I'm new to this site and can use some help! I have come to rely heavily on the content of such forums and find yours to be well written and informative. Although I am not mechanically inclined, as most Rover owners, I am a bit of an enthusiast,. I have a Disco in the states, but my pride and joy is my 2006 td5 Defender, which I own in Costa Rica. With that said, I'm wondering if I can get some advice because I have a problem with my Defender and the mechanic and I are at a bit of a standstill.
The short story is is doesn't start. A month ago I was having problems with my blinkers and hazards, sometime they work others, more often they didn't. Checked fuses, none blown. A week ago the truck was dead, we pushed it to start and it did so, but while driving the engine did not have enough power to move beyond second gear (engine sounded normal, just no power) then while driving, hit a bump and all power was regained, truck back to normal. But after a few hours, upon restart same thing and no power!
We replaced the battery, thinking it may be the battery- alternator combo. However, now the truck won't turn over. It sounds as though it wants to star, but doesn't seem like it's getting fuel to turn over. My mechanic checked the currents on the new battery and the alternator seems to be giving a charge, so we crossed that off!
Btw, blinkers and hazards still don't work, checked fuses only one blown was for the blower. Glow light is acting erratic, sometimes it is on others not. Another thing to mention, not sure if it's related: the oil cap had been loose and oil had spilled all over the engine. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
