bottle jack between axle and chassis - forces axle apart. make sure the chassis is on axle stands first tho.

for the cost of replacement turrets and fixings, why not do it? its a pukka job then

When i replaced my shocks the other week the turrets were really corroded with big fist sized holes in them.

Replace now and save money in the long run.

Big +1 Galvanised turrets are £13.50 +VAT

and makes the job very easy!

i found most of my problem was wheel balance and tracking but if you know your shocks are 9 years old then it wouldn't hurt changing them then have your tracking checked after as most places check for free and wheel balance is usually just short of a tenner a wheel and can help fettle the last of the vibration out of the drive

Thanks l will replace the turrets and have a go at the job myself.

I managed to replace the front dampers on my Ferrari and they had adjusting motors attached to the top, aluminium spring preload collars and various shims/spacers etc to refit.

Yeah if they're knackered or you want tubular ones then you may as well

Just to update this thread.

I finally got around to fitting new front shocks, and it has cured the bounce from the front wheels, that occurred on the motorway.

The old shocks felt fine, although not as stiff to push/pull as the (standard LR OE) new ones l'd bought a few weeks ago.

Only one turret bolt sheared off, so it was reassembled with three remaining bolts until the new turret rings arrive.
I also replaced the lower bushes on the rear shocks as it was an advisory on the MOT last week.

The lower mounting bolts on all four shocks were very tight, anybody doing this job should arm themselves with a pair of Stillsons and a 19mm ratchet ring spanner!
Although l used a strap wrench to hold the new shocks while tightening the lower nut.
The top nuts came off fine with a small spanner on the top to stop it turning, although l'd sprayed them with WD40 a few weeks ago.
