I want to change/upgrade the front speakers in my defender as the ones in there are really cheap and crackly. Anyone know from experice which ones work well in the cockpit of the defender as it is pretty noisy!! :D

i picked up a pair of pioneer speakers that fit perfectly for 2 pound from the recycling centre :)
make a hell of a difference :)

get same diameter speakers as you have but new ones will be deeper, so you will need spacers behind them about a ?£10 for spacers . iused 4" soil pipe wi black gaffer tape wraped around , looks fine , u only need a spcacer ring on passenger side

Had some circa 1980 Pioneer front speakers that fitted the front dash.
Made my spacers from off cuts of 18mm MDF.
Painted them matt black. Cost nothing.
Sounds good - much better than standard speakers

After much research on eBay etc Halfrauds are the place to go. Get Fusion speakers approx £25 quid, I think they have or can get the spacers you will need also. They are the best spec available to fit at a sensible price. I made some 'cabinets' up for the back of my 90 and fitted speakers in there (Fusion) and that made a hell of a difference as the little fronts don't have to be worked so hard to drown out the whirling machinery :)

You can just fit the rear speakers in between the rear quarter panels and the rear seats. I also put a slim Halfrauds sub-woofer behind the front passenger seat.

hey flash i just bought a set of landy speakers on ebay and they sound the bollocks crystal clear , maybe your old speakers are nackered
