Hello, my 90 has the scorpion extreme suspension fitted and the front shocks are near the end of their life. So im looking at replacements, obviously i could go to extreme 4x4 and buy the front shocks, but i haven't been too impressed with them and they have been rebuilt once already. the only problem is the shocks are the same as rear shocks with pin one end end eyelet the other.so not standard front shocks. Does anyone know if this is what scorpion racing used or am i stuck with buying the same replacements from extreme 4x4?

regards
joe

Where is the pin and where is the eye ,top or bottom .

I would have to check but i think the pin's at the top so a rear shock would be running upside down.

How does it connect at the bottom? Sure it would not be too difficult too use pin/pin.
Upside down, don't they fill up with crap.

Il get some pics tomorrow. you could be right with converting back to pin and pin. i think its got a bolt on bracket to take the eye so this might come off. just not sure what the gains are for having an eye at the bottom.

Fronts don't look upside down, the may be eyes so less stress on pins on full articulation my be worth a call and get some advise, I have seen pins snap on shocks when on full articulation but that was on a disco.

I have emailed extreme 4x4 to see what they come up with. when i said shock upside down. i meant it would be reversed to how it sits if used on the rear because the eye is at the top on the rear but if i installed a rear shock on the front the eye would be at the bottom. would this cause any problems for the shock?

If you look close at the pics front and back shocks are different, If you fitted a normal shock it would, if the boot was not fitted perfect crap would get into the outer sleeve and rust it through.

Extreme4x4 or what used to be scorpion racing.

There is a reason they were called scrap iron 4x4. :D

Your front shocks look to use the same mounts as standard. The rear has the scrap iron mounts. Just replace them with some gwyn lewis mounts and then you can fit pin to pin shocks on the front and rear. Thus eliminating the need to buy different types of shocks, you could have a spare in the car with you for both front and rear.

If you look closer at front it looks like bottom mount is eye not pin.

Yes the bottom mount on the front shock is an eye. i may well take off the bottom mount and put an +2 or +5 pin mount shock in its place.

Extreme 4x4 haven't replied to my email so much for customer service.

If you put +5 on the rear the shock will be pin/pin, unless its been changed you will need to change the top mount

well i have just got back from a weekend playing in slindon. my friend has the terrafirma +5 setup on his defender and we was having a bit of cross axle playing about. my 90 has more twist at the back so now i need to find out what length shocks are on the back. because he had a wheel up in the air on a certain part and i didnt and he reckoned i still had more to go. so i may well just bite the bullet and replace like for like.

I was at Slindon this weekend, I was in a black TD5 fender. I have Terrafirma +5" shocks with a +2" bearmach springs. Although I have dislocation cones my rear springs still came out on a few twisty bits. Will need to get Gwyn Lewis items, they have a hook which catchs the last coil and prevents them coming out
