Hi Folks,

I'm new to all of this Defender malarkey, so excuse the daft questions.

My Defender came with a winch. Its' coming off for the time being.

Where is the best place to buy a front bumper and the plastic end caps? There appear to be loads of suppliers. Who is good to deal with in general?

Go for a galv military bumper. This has a central pin for recovery.

Plenty of un-strengthened replicas about iirc from when I ordered mine.

You get free delivery for oders over £60 at Paddockspares so If you order the later type bumper with holes for end caps @ £49.50 and the end caps @13.80, that takes it over the £60 so getting free postage and effectively getting the end caps for a couple of quid.

Hi folks,

I ordered up the military bumper and a few more bits from Paddock, so got the free delivery.

@bankz5152 The winch is a Ramsey. Not sure what model yet. Not sure if it is for sale, but I'l let you know if it is. Thanks for the offer of the bumper BTW.

Is it one of their enormous old fashioned worm drive winches or one of the modern planetary types? If it is the former they are great pieces of kit, slow, but will pull a house down. I had one for a while and then swapped if tor a husky as they are a little smaller but still a worm drive.

I suspect it is a worm drive type, as the motor is sitting at 90 deg to the cable drum.
