I am looking to convert my 110 CSW to a new diesel engine - to give it a bit of proper power. I have been looking at a number of options - has any of you coe across the GM Chevy 6.5 Diesel big engine (same as Hummer1)? Is fitting any of those big diesels any more complex thn fitting a new 300TDi or TGV engines?

Cheers

yes and yes.

tgv is a good engine though and plenty of grunt. wat you want more power for? get a V8.

look for a mazda sl35ti 3.5 liters intercooled turbo. best engine for your landy.

I already have an Isuzu 2.8TD heavy duty (cam gear instead of belt drive) - but I suspect it is on its last legs, of course it may be all 100% ok if gasket etc can be redone, but i have started putting together the intellingence required to plan another transplant - I am after a heavy duty engine that can cruise on motorways in Europe or work all night on Norway dirtroads without overheating complaining, etc...The TGV engine is perfect but also is approx 5k+ labour to install - a 6.5 GM military unit with 30k miles is approx 1grand on eBay - but I'd like to hear from anyone that actually has one - in my case it would need to work with a heavy duty Lt85 + Lt230Disci boxes - just 2 yer old from Ashcrofts, so the lot should work nicely - only thing...who would be able to do such an installation and would that be very expensive? And what about reliability and consumption? Thanks folks - very appreciated!

i had a 6.2 gmc in a range rover a good few years ago, it came with engine mounts and bell housing adapter plate so it went pretty much straight in. seem to recall i had to change the diffs for a higher ratio? but was a bloody strong engine that pulled like a train and i think i was getting 25ish mpg. only problem is its a bloody heavy engine and i had heavy duty rear springs on the front to cope with it.
have to admit i would have another one.

I have a 110 with a GMC 6.2 in it with a R380 box and front and rear disc braked salisbury axles. I am just about to fit twin front shocks as the weight of the cast lump is 750lb compared with the 300tdi at 450lb. The 6.2 gives out Horsepower / Torque: 165 hp (123 kW) @ 3,600 rpm / 330 lb·ft (447 N·m) @ 2,100 rpm but i would think i am only getting 15-18 MPG on 100% Biodiesel.

The 6.5 turbo is :-
Power / Torque (highest): 215 hp (160 kW) @ 3,200 rpm / 440 lb·ft (597 N·m) @ 1,800 rpm

In 2001 GMC brought out the 6.6 turbo diesel which was a better engine the that had :-
Power / Torque: 300 bhp (220 kW) @ 3100rpm / 520 lb·ft (705 N·m) @1800 rpm

2005 GMC 6.6 turbo diesel :-
Power / Torque: 310 bhp (230 kW) @3000rpm / 605 lb·ft (820 N·m) @1600 rpm
