Hi, i'm trying to replace the ball joint in the drop arm of my Defender 300TDi and most of it has come apart nicely except for the top cone which won't move at all. I've broken a small vice trying to move it (i'm presuming it needs to go down and not up). I've tried heating it and whacking it with a hammer and it's only bending the top. I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any tips would be appreciated.
thanks.

Can you force it out with a socket and g-cramp? Get a socket which fits through the hole in the arm but not the hole in the cone and squeeze it out...

Mind you saying that i had exactly the same trouble and had to end up getting a new drop arm (which comes with it all fitted) , which lead to a whole new problem of removing the old one! (once it's off the cone is far easier to remove!)

I spent about 4 hours trying to get the cone out and in the end decided that for £30 i'll just get a new arm, but the 34mm nut holding the drop arm on just won't budge and i've had full leverage on it. I was planning to try the socket and g-clamp tomorrow as i just found an article about it on the web, but there seems to be a top lip on the one in the picture that is not on mine - which might be broken. New drop arm i think, but how to get that nut off.

I am with odey on this one. Mine was locked solid too. I ended up going for a complete drop arm which was also a pain to remove.
