whatever
done a search but no definitive fix, quite nasty when your rounding a bend with a 12 legger coming towards you,my door is a **** poor fit,new hinges have not helped, but its now opening on its own, when its shut if i shoulder it from inside it wont open, but just decides to open when moving, have tried adjusting the striker to no avail ,the rubber tube thing is missing from the striker but this should not stop it shutting?

If the door latch striker plate is a round pin that the mechanism clamps around when you shut the door, then it's anti-burst. If it's just like a household door latch, then it's not.

The anti burst lock is designed to stop the door flying open in a crash, such as when the vehicle rolls over.

cheers lightening :)

When I got mine off the MOD it had one nylon tube missing off the drivers side and made the door a bit dodgy, replaced the striker and all good now, it does work :)

Mine does the same when the temp drops below freezing. Wd40 helps, but I'm ordering a new latch (already replaced the catch).

A missing nylon tube on the striker pin should not cause the door to open on its' own, but it might rattle as you go over rough roads.
Definitely best to fit a new one though.

On Defenders the grease goes hard over time, causing the mechanism to stick. Also it can happen in cold weather, so you slam the door and it bounces open again.
The solution is to re lubricate the mechanism with a light grease or oil. But spraying WD-40 into the mechanism takes a few seconds and will cure the fault for a while.
All four doors on my 110 bounced open when you closed them in freezing weather, meaning you had to close them and then press on the exterior handle or pull on the interior handle to engage the latch. I sprayed WD-40 into the mechanisms and two months later they are all still working.

Mine keeps flying open, especially during roundabouts. I found it funny at first, but my passengers certainly didn't!

At least Defender parts are fairly cheap. A new rear door lock nechanism only cost me £26 and a set of three barrels with keys was a tenner.....and those were the expensive ones, l saw Britpart barrel/key sets online at £7 with free postage!

A new side door lock mechanism for my Transit Connect cost over £200

For a moment while reading your thread title, I thought it was happening when parked and a ghost was opening the door :)

In that case you would have needed to get on a Jesus forum. LOL

Check out the X-trouser. Paddocks has 'em. All metal, nicely built. Replaced the cracked plastics with 'em.
