My Defender 90's doors have the usual rust on the bottom and I was wondering is there anyway I can fix them or should I just get some replacement ones?
 
Can you weld? Do you know someone who can? If yes - replacement parts for door frames a readily available. Alternatively, there are firms that will fully refurbish your doors. They'd need to be in pretty poor condition to justify throwing them away. Having said that, if you decide to bin them, I'll have 'em!
 
Try rust killer first.... tart up and paint. If in danger of catastophic failure you can repair..... 015 door repair section
Ebay turns up the odd reasonable doors.... most will be worse than what you have :)
 
Repair sections for the bottom can be bought or made, You can by a new "skin" for around £80.

So with a wee bit of welding and replacing the door skin you can have your door as good as new for about £100
 
I was just looking into this - 2001 Defender, poor but not yet terminal door bottoms. Local specialist just quoted me £3k to refurbish! yes £3k.... I could buy new ones for a fraction...
 
Depends on your budget and timescale.
Refurbishing my Landy at the moment, but it is my wife's daily work vehicle and she loves it so time is a major factor. Also, because she has a major stake in it, it makes spending money on the Landy a lot easier :D
 
'Walk through door repair' or some such thread title in Defender section istr - really good idiot proof walk through..... (doh!) I've got it mentally tagged for when mine finally get attacked with the welder. YRM seem to be the place for the section to fit. Enjoy! A

I'm going to replace mine when I can afford it. The bottoms aren't terrible, but the skins are really dented and I need to replace the lock mechanism and stuff, so have decided to just get new doors.
 
You don't get new fittings with new door though, so you will need to factor in anything you can't swap over :-(

Yeah, am planning on making a proper project of the doors, so fitting all new mech, maybe central locking and poss new glass as well.

Anyone had any dealings with SPLandrovers? Am planning on getting quite a few big parts from them.

Never dealt with them personally, But heard a lot of good things about them.
 
I only heard about SPL last week. Looked at the website and their stuff looks good. Pricey though. I had already bought my replacement doors, much cheaper britpart ones. My plan is to take the skins off, get the steel frames plastic coated (quoted less that £100 for three doors) the put the skins back on.
The hope is that they will last a very long timer after that.

Personally I'd look into getting them galvanised if you can
 
Here is my rear as they say..... Still looking at repair or replace options as I have no welder/can't weld...

I bought several galvanised doors off them they are fantastic great customer service and products are a*

It's nearly new is that!! :D:D:D

Daft as it might sound, give it a good dosing with plenty of WD40 all over ... it is a good rot-stopper! ;);)
 
Well if just cosmetic I would be tempted to paint with something and cover for another year but, skin loose so spare wheel crashes to and fro when driving, I guess I could put spare on the bonnet!
