Hi all,
I posted a similar topic to this a little while ago sand got some great suggestions, but unfortunately nothing worked so i'm trying again.

The vehicle is a 1993 200tdi 110 with 190k on the clock.

The problem is a clunk when turning left. It also happens when pulling off sometimes but not all the time. To garages have seen the vehicle and failed to come to a conclusion. One replaced a swivel pin, which made absolutely no difference, then said it could be the swivel pin bearing in the swivel. I don't really believe them and i've had a look and can't find any play. All the steering uj's, track rod ends etc are all fine, and both garages said that the bushes and bolts are all ok and all tight.

The thing that's worrying me most in that when the clunk happens i can feel it through the floor really clearly and strongly.

The clunk has been happening for a while now, and is getting worse but very, very slowly, but i'd rather tackle it than wait for something to fail.

I hope someone has an idea- i'm flummoxed.

Have the A Frame (upper link) bushes been checked?

Not sure why it would impact turning left, but can cause a 'clonk' pulling away
 
Sadly lots of things can clunk. My Disco did, it turned out to be worn upper/lower rear shock bushes and a knackered shock.

But equally a rear spring or any other suspension bush could cause a clunk, as good a lose body mount bolt, fuel tank moving about or even a lose brake caliper.

A-frame seems fine, according to the garages.

The suspension is all nearly new all the way round, with heavy duty springs, shocks and steering damper.

Sorry then Steve - needs someone cleverer/more experienced than me - you seem to have exhausted the usual suspects

Wheel bearing or engine mountings are my last throw of the dice - particularly if it's slowly getting worse, but would have expected the garages to have checked those
 
i would definately check cvs ,by jacking wheel up and putting in either lock and feeling for play ,drive members,removing each prop in turn and trying in difflock while removing prop check center diff for excessive wear they can eventually break and getting in t/box gear teeth
 
Check the panhard rod m16 bolts as they can be tight but not tight enought to nip up the bush
This was the noise on mine and the bokts were tight i just had to do them even tighter

I haven't yet checked the engine mounting bushes- so will do that too.

The clunk wasn't happening with the old suspension, but I did drive about 2000miles in the month between fitment and the noise appearing, and I've checked all the bolts etc. I've also been round all the suspension and radius arms etc with a 2foot breaker bar making sure everything is as tight as it can be.

Just a stab in the dark.
Have you got dislocation cones on the front? for some reason my shocks were knocking on mine. you will be able to see scuff marks on the shocks.
 
Im getting the same clunk some times when I pull off.
I am pretty sure that its the A frame bushes.
Guess thats next on the list after she gets painted.
 
I got my friend to have a look underneath whilst I put my truck in 1st, let clutch out quickly, then reverse, do the same etc etc.. clunking every time. It looked like the front prop was turning, and the clunk was coming from my front diff. Haven't done anything about it, not sure whether it's something in the differential gearing, shafts/cvs/flanges.. it hasn't got any worse over 20 thousand miles though!

My 90 made a knocking which was felt throughout the vehicle and after a day of checking we tracked the source to the steering box itself, we adjusted the box as per instructions in the manual and the clunk went away for a few weeks but came back this weekend so recon box time I think. regards
 
resurecting an old thread, after a jolly good google, I had the same on my 110 , and read all the causes / symptoms etc, anyway tracked it down to movement of the front springs. I noticed a thin rust line on the lower 1 1/2 coils, where they rub, so I doused the lower 1 1/2 coils and spring seat on both sides with ep 90, out of a squirty oil can, et voila, cured, no more bonking / thumping from the first drive. I could feel it thro the floor before, but now its so quiet.
