Hello,
I've just joined the forum and looking for opinions regarding Defender Cherry picker conversions.

Any input positive and negative is useful and greatly appreciated!

Many thanks

I'd deeply want to agree! Seeing as it would suit my work perfectly.

However you barely see them about. I'm left wondering what pitfalls they might have.

Cheers

The most common user's here are the electricity supply people. There are firms that sell off ex utility vehicles.

Yeh, they were originally converted to carry out inspections on telegraph poles in fields.

It's the MEWP access over rough terrain that is useful to me in greens.

Cheers

The main pitfalls are going to be that it is based on a Landrover.

An easier solution might be to get something like this. Or even just hire one if you don't need it very often. They are available in a wide range of sizes, this is quite a big one, they also come with a smaller one man platform, and tracked, for better all terrain access.
The smaller ones can be towed on a 3500kg trailer behind a Defender or other suitable vehicle.

I have used those before, with good results, but I have found the scissor lifts to be much more useful.

The above MEWPS have been industry standards for ages now in Film and TV.
However for both you still require prelaid trackway for accessing remote sites when out on location.
With the Landrover base you could get in and out before the powers that be have even considered where to lay the track.
