im sticking a 110 body on a d1 chasiis its fairly commen on rr chassis
as they seem to last quite well compared to the body

you need to be confident with a welder thogh go for it im trying to retain the dico seating set up so ill need to make a few panels

did you use a disco chassis
 
im cutting the body of a dico at the minute due to it being anout to fall off
and replacing it wi a 110 body as ive got half of one already
 
my disco was crashed into by a clio on a roundabout and ended up with a bent sill and B pillar, i had an old series that needed a new chassis and bulkhead so i combined the two with a 110 bulkhead that i repaired and now i have a hybrid!
 
i bought mine intending to fixit up
and kind of on a whim
but as im not really a disco person ive decided given the amount of work and that ive got more 110 bits in decent nick than disco bits then hybrid it is and as its for the wife i can get my 90 back
 
i enjoyed the build, it took just over a year from lamping off the disco body to the first trial and that was working nearly every weekend!

when i cut the body off i took the engine and box off the chassis and got a local guy who sandblasts houses to come and clean the chassis for me, cost me £80 and he took three hours. ( i think he was doing a bit of work on the side!!) it was the best £80 i ever spent becuase it would have taken weeks with a wire brush and grinder. it left the steel shiny and bright and had a perfect finish for taking a few layers of primer.
when you look underneath it now it looks real nice. smooth and clean
 
hi rory did u use the disco bulkhead frame or the defender bulkhead on the disco chassis??i am considering to do one soon as my disco is rotting away maybe 90 defender body i knowi might have to shorten the chassis with a new defender rear cross member etc
 
mm for off road and beach buggy type fab!!!! but I want defender body etc for my everyday use etc
 
Am I the only one thinking I'd do it the other way around? Defender running gear with a nice comfy disco body chopped short so there are no over hangs and turned into a pick up.
 
such negative waves, there have been many 100inchers created even Mark Evans did one. Panels for Defender bodies are relatively cheap to buy and plentiful on ebay, as has been mentioned Disco chassis's dont rust as badly as Defenders do and the one bit that does rust is cut off anyway to fit a Defender rear cross member, front outriggers and front tub mountings are different but can be fabricated easily I know as I am on with one at the moment.

Some pictures would be very welcome, I've just had word of a disco chassis going on sale shortly. I would like to do a hybrid Landy but have not done this before, I've got the welding and fabricating skills to it and shotblasting skills and kit to do it. I want to do a 6x6 when I have more space for the extended chassis lol. The disco/defender hybrid does appeal to me at the moment and the space I have will accomodate the build.
