So after picking the defender up the first thing that's bugging me is the rusty body cappings.

I want to sort these ASAP, as they let the bodywork down. Having looked into it I know I can split the roof and then the side panels but I'm guessing the roof and side panels can remain in place and I can remove them in one go with some extra hands.

Been trying to sort new cappings but can't really see the best place to buy them, seen some galvanised ones on eBay but better suggestion appreciated. It's a 110 SW so I'm guessing these are one piece as in the side and back parts?? (L shaped ones)

Also are there seals in between these or should I be using sikaflex or something?

Don't want to take roof off to find I'm missing parts so any info would be appreciated

I used grip fill in between the capping and the side panels sets rock hard and stops water getting in a treat easy to apply too
 
The set I bought off here have just arrived for my 110 CSW so I'll try to get some pictures of the swap over but I'm being a nancy and passing it to a specialist to do.

L shaped? Do some come in a kit form to then create this 'L' Shape?
 
the rear and side are normally separate pieces..... I bought ex genuine LR galv ones, new old stock from the very early 110 csw, paid £120 for both sides at The Northern Old Sod

Enjoy getting the old ones off... what a t**t of a job as landrover used some unbelievable sealer..... I drilled out the rivets and then after getting the rears off hammered a length of copper pipe in from the rear to break the seal on the side.... took a while and a lot of levering. refitted mine with a load of non-setting panel sealer that I picked up cheap, excellent stuff that I have also used on my door repairs to ensure no ally/steel contact

Luckily I won't have to get involved but I would like to see it with the roof off :)
 
Afraid this is the only pic I have showing em painted n fitted.... you can just about make out at the rear that the rear corner section is a separate piece

Hot air Paint gun softens em up and makes it a bit easier to get the buggers off. But I know what you mean I destroyed the tub on the 90 trying to remove the cappings and ended up buying a complete tub off ebay rather than try to repair the old tub. Conversely We changed the 110's cappings at last years, Bath and West show. and they were a piece of **** to get off. The Pics are on the thread somewhere.
