G'day
I have a 2003 Defender 110, I recently went 4x4ing in the bush and ended up getting extremely filthy, :) ....but after i finished playing in the mud the battery light came on...I took it to the local garage on my way home and found that the alternator wasn't putting out any charge, at this time the engine bay was so full of mud that we couldn't see anything. cleaned the engine bay with a steam cleaner and let it dry still alternator not working!
Never had any issues with the alternator b4?

HELP!!

Hi, you probably got some mud/sand/dirt in your alternator and it could have ruined the bearings etc. The alternator could have also been on it's way out anyway and the offloading just finished it off..

Did you used to have to give a few revs for the battery light to go off anyway?

Either way time to fit a new alternator, dead easy job on a 300tdi but found this thread showing how to change on on a td5
