Hi guys

I am on the verge of pulling the trigger on a late model 110 csw. I was amazed to find that the vehicle does not have air con! Other than that omission the basic spec is fine for my needs.

Couple of questions if ok -

1. Could a unit like this one be put behind the front seats and hard wired in to run off a separate battery? Size of unit permitting of course
Portable Air Conditioning Unit KYR-35/X1c - Air Con Centre

2. Should I just finance the extra 5 or 6k and get an xs version, bearing in mind residual value and overall desirability

Thanks!
Will

no you cant just use a mains powered aircon unit! for a start its 240v

its bloody huge

you have to have a condensing rad, or else where is all the heat you are trying to extract from the cabin going..... back into the cabin!

There are aftermarket solutions for non aircon vehicles to have it fitted and at a quarter of the cost of the extra 5-6 grand you think an xs model warrants.

Because in my opinion all station wagon variants should have it. Even more so when they are 20k plus. A 90 pick up I could forgive not putting air con on that, but a csw no.

some people dont want aircon, so its meeting a market demand

Where in the world do you live? I drive a 110 TD5 CSW in the UK with no aircon and have never missed it (my previous vehicle, a van, had it)
If you open the vent flaps and rear windows it's really nice, l don't like driving around in the Summer with all the windows closed.
Having said that, the Puma engined Defender has no vent flaps below the screen, so you might miss aircon more in that version.

Thanks for your replies all - and the links to the d44 website. The car is a 14 plate csw.

I am near Chester and we would use it as a family car - me, the wife, 2 kids and a big dog

Personally I think we can live without the air con - but wifey is adamant we have to have it and I can't help but think resale value might be affected if it hasn't got it.

Cheers
Will

I am tempted to buy the car as is, and if we really think we can't live without the air con - get the bits from one of the breakers on eBay

eerrr....

youve just said its a 14 plate

and you want to try and install bits from a breakers yard

how to DEVALUE your car instantly!

Lol no I mean from a recent car that's had a rear end shunt or something. I wouldn't put any old crap on it obviously :)

It is a fairly complicated fit , as its integrated not just a bolt on . and unless you were doing yourself, and are a pretty capable mech would work out pretty expensive . By the time you have bought all the bits from a dismantlers, bought parts to replace those that the dismantlers have broken/missed, or damaged , paid for someone to fit it , the extra for an XS would not be that huge. I fitted aircon on my110 but went for a aftermarket HD industrial set up , for Australian conditions , as the gen landrover version couldnt cut it . HTSH
