Hi,

Please could someone assist;

I just replaced my Radiator and Intercooler all with new silicone hoses.
After topping up the coolant today I took it for a drive and when I started to accelerate past 40mph mark roughly, Id get a very loud whooshing noise from the engine bay. sounds a bit like a old kettle or a whistle...

Also I feel a far loss of power. can't really get past 60 as I'm too worried to put my foot down as I am not sure whats going on. could it be the radiator? Coolant??

Pls help

Cheers

oh yes. As you will know its all a very tight fit in the engine bay around the rad intercooler area, especially with a big performance intercooler. so there was a bit of bending a forcing of the intercooler hoses.

The Right hand Intercooler hose was a pain to get on and wouldn't budge any further than half way up the pipe. do you mean Rad hoses too?

Sounds like a leak in your turbo hoses somewhere or in the intercooler. If you look under the bonnet and rev the engine up you might hear where the leak is coming from when the engine is under load. The Turbo hoses/connections have to be securely fitted as quiet a bit of pressure goes through when the engine is under load. On tick over you probably wont here it.

cheers Mikescuba. I will give that a go this morning. Could it be that air is forcing itself out of the connection on the intercooler cos the pipe isn't all the way pushed on?. maybe the jubilee clip isn't tight enough?

Cant see there being a problem with the intercooler itsself as its brand new. Or the pipes really unless bending them a few times could cause a split?

cheers

it's either a boost leak or the dreaded manifold warp.
Given you've been playing I'd say it's a boost leak and a hose isn't sealing

The connections have to be very securely fitted. I would say that may well be where your problem is. You can't have half measures on the Turbo pressurizing system.

okay cheers. going to go and make sure they're all fitted snug now. just another question - Im bit concerned i haven't refill the coolant correctly. I ran the engine in idle for an hour or so without the expansion tank cap on to release and trapped air as I thought it may be that making the noise. when I checked on it, the expansion tank, the coolant and all the pipes and radiator were very hot, but the temp gauge on dash at normal level (1/4 from blue)

that normal or?

You say that the high performance intercooler is brand new. Is there any way that there could be some form of wrapping material which has entered the unit? And, what have the supplies of the intercooler said?

Thank you for all your replies. I sorted it today - after the bleed hose snapped off the radiator in central Cambridge and having to get the AA out who superglued it back on and followed me home. So had to put the old Rad back in until I get a replacement sent out. Anyway, in the process I had to remove the intercooler etc and replaced it and made sure all the fixing were secure. Sorted the problem, but going to have to take it all out again soon. brill :)
