just wondering if any one had any experience with this?

have just replaced my injector seals on it tonight and adjusted the cam followers as described on here! took it for a sort run and got back and its making an awfull knocking noise, slightly metalic! did have to turn the engine over to get some injectors out but put it back in the same place!

also just to add i have just had a look back under the rocker cover and everything seemed ok, started it up after that and it was fine for about a minute then started again.

just wondering if anyone can help?

thanks alot dale!

Check the injectors are not bottoming out when hot. Its critical to get the gaps adjusted properly. Also check the injector clamps are tight as sometimes an injector can settle and the clamp comes loose.

Check the clamps then tighten each adjuster at maximum lift on the cam until the injectpr bottoms out (careful as it will be obvious when it does) then back of the adjuster by exactly one turn and lock down with the lock nut. You will have to turn the engine over by hand to adjust each injector.

well i did check them again when hot! turned the engine over until one of the injector rocker was sitting on the highest point of the cam then wound it all the way down and back off 1 turn! take it thats correct?

i did have to turn the engine over to remove 2 injector that shoulds make a difference should it?

spoken to a mate he says one of the injectors might not be working? but i thought that would smoke if that was the case?

OK did you adjust the injectors whilst hot ? If so this will leave them too big and you will get a tapping sound. It wont cause any damage. I should have said to check the gaps when hot but adjust when cold.

They should be adjusted when cold as most of the gap is taken up when hot as everything expands.

When you turned over the engine so long as you did not have the camshaft chain off it should cause no problems as the timing will be unaffected. Is the injector rocker shaft fully down and tight on its seats?

yes i did adjust them while hot, i realise my mistake now. should of adjusted them from cold!

no the timing chain wasnt off so the timing wont be out! off out to adjust them now and then go for a steady run with it!

will let you know how i get on but thanks alot shifty, your help is much apprcsiated!

p.s i prefer working on tractor to car ;)

well thats nearly 3 hours of tinkering and they still tap! didnt to begin with but once it got warm they did!

noticed that even with the adjuster wound right out some of the rockers are still extremely tight! so i am now wondering if the injectors are seated correctly, but got a mate coming tomorow who has alot of experience with landrovers so he should be able to put his finger on it!

That sounds a bit worrying. There should be about 10mm of play on each injector rocker with the adjuster backed right off. I'd guess your injectors are not seated properly but then it would hardly run and your compression would be virtually zero. Did you torque down the injector clamps or did you just guess and do them by feel?

i just guessed them, did slacken them off tonight and tighten them back up not as tight made no difference! its definatly got to be them as engine was hard to turn over! when set up! will take injectors out and put them back in again i think or get my mate to do it!

cheers shifty! will keep you informed!

Make sure you have not damaged or pinched the rubber O rings. They can be a bit of a tight fit. I used some diesel to lubricate them. Also check that the copper washers have not dropped off the injectors preventing them seating properly. Use the tiniest amount of copper grease to stick them to the injector as you insert the injector into the head.

i doubht the copper washers have dropped off as they was a tight fit! the injectors just dropped in and i though at was it wish now i had given them a slight push to make sure they are seated correctly! but will remove them and check them over aswell!
